F.A.Q.
Here are just a handful of the most frequently asked questions I receive. I will add to this list as needed.
01
Why can't I choose a specific puppy before 7 weeks of age?

Our #1 goal is healthy and well adjusted babies. We strive to better the breed with a focus on improving specific traits such as short legs and faces, beautiful coats, and exotic colors. In order to do this we must "hold back" prospective puppies that could complement our program. In order to keep the best possible candidates for our program we need to see the development of each puppy. This is much more evident once they are up and moving around.
I have also found that most people like to choose once certain traits are more easily apparent. It is very difficult to chooses a baby at 1-3 weeks vs and older pup over 6 weeks. There are just so many changes in that short time frame. Even an experienced breeder like myself will have a hard time identifying certain characteristics in a newborn puppy. Below are a few examples of pups at 2 weeks vs the same pups 6 weeks or more. Newborns are adorable but the changes are obvious and you can easily see why waiting is worth it!

Why do prices vary from one litter to the next?

When it come to individual puppies, cost is influenced by sex, litter size, litter costs, and overall quality. As prices change in our economy from vet cost to utility and food costs, I will adjust prices accordingly (but always within our posted price range). I am always looking for ways to reduce prices without sacrificing quality, but there are some things I believe you can not price shop on, such as quality food and veterinary care. I try my best to keep prices reasonable, while still being able to cover future expenses. Prices are determined on a per litter basis.
03
Do you sell "teacup" yorkies?
At Valkyrie Elite Yorkies, we are committed to responsible breeding practices and the health and well-being of our dogs. Our litters are planned with the goal of producing yorkies who mature within the breed standard of 4-7lb. We do have puppies who mature both above or below that standard.
We believe it's important to clarify that "Teacup Yorkies" do not exist as a recognized classification or type of Yorkshire Terrier. Rather, the term "Teacup" is used by irresponsible breeders to drive up prices and increase sales. These breeders often engage in unethical or harmful practices, such as deliberately breeding runts of litters despite any health issues.
Puppies sold under the guise of "Teacup" often mature to be standard Yorkie sized (4-7lb) or may be runts of the litter which are at a higher risk of health issues. As a reputable breeder, we do not engage in this harmful trend and instead focus on breeding healthy, well-adjusted Yorkshire Terriers that hopefully meet the breed's standard size and are free of any genetic health issues. Our dedication to responsible breeding practices ensures that our puppies are happy, healthy, and well-adjusted. We take pride in providing our customers with quality dogs that will bring joy and companionship for years to come.

Is it possible to arrange a visit with the puppies before making a decision?

At Valkyrie Elite Yorkies, we understand that some potential buyers may be cautious due to past experiences of scams or frauds. We are proud to be certified by "Good Dog", an organization that thoroughly examines breeders and verifies all their practices. For more information, please refer to our Good Dog profile.

We prioritize the safety and well-being of our family and puppies by conducting live video chats instead of in-person visits. We have a private Facebook page where we regularly post pictures and videos of our puppies as they grow. Our waitlist members and previous buyers are welcome to join and follow the puppies' progress. For those who want to see the puppies before making a reservation fee, we are happy to arrange a scheduled virtual tour of our home where the puppies are raised.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in respecting our decision to maintain a safe environment for our family and pets. Please contact us for further inquiries.

Why is it beneficial to wait until 7 weeks to choose a puppy?

Choosing a puppy is a significant decision that requires careful consideration. At Valkyrie Elite Yorkies, we recommend waiting until the puppies are 7 weeks old before making your selection. Scientific research indicates that at 7 weeks of age, a puppy has reached neurological and genetic maturity, having the brain of an adult dog. Evaluating each puppy at this age provides valuable insight into their inherited behavioral tendencies, which can impact the recommended training and socialization.
While a puppy's personality will continue to develop with their environment, the summary we provide at 7 weeks offers a useful outline of their strengths and weaknesses. As a responsible breeder, we use this information to ensure the most suitable placement for each puppy and to provide tailored training recommendations. Waiting until puppies reach this crucial age also allows us to select the best candidates for our breeding program.
In summary, waiting until 7 weeks to choose a puppy is beneficial as it allows potential owners to gain a glimpse into the puppies' personalities and ensures responsible breeding practices. At our website, we prioritize the welfare of our puppies and aim to provide the best possible matches for our puppies and their families.
